Rolls-Royce, the British aircraft engine manufacturer, announced its intention to reduce its global workforce by up to 2,500 jobs, which accounts for approximately six percent of its staff.
According to a statement from the group, these job reductions are part of the company’s plans to create a more streamlined and efficient organization. Tufan Erginbilgic, the Chief Executive who began restructuring the company earlier in the year, emphasized the goal of building a Rolls-Royce that is well-suited for the future.
This restructuring will focus on strengthening procurement and supply chain management, in addition to maintaining the company’s existing engineering and technical excellence.
Under the previous CEO, Warren East, Rolls-Royce had already eliminated over 9,000 jobs and launched a significant divestment program in 2020 in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic within the aviation industry.
However, under its new leadership, Rolls-Royce reported a net profit of £1.2 billion ($1.5 billion) in the first half of the year, a significant turnaround compared to the £1.6 billion loss incurred the previous year. CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, a British and Turkish national, previously worked at the energy major, BP, for over two decades.
