In a bid to mitigate recurring accidents involving articulated vehicles, leading to loss of lives and property on several Lagos bridges, the Lagos State government has revealed plans for a traffic diversion scheduled for the night of Saturday, October 7, 2023. This diversion aims to facilitate the installation of a truck barrier on the Dorma-Long Bridge between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transport issued a statement on Thursday outlining the alternative routes accessible to motorists during this diversion:
- Motorists traveling from Western Avenue towards Ikorodu Road will be rerouted to Empire Road/Jibowu to proceed with their journeys.
- Alternatively, motorists from Western Avenue can opt for the Agege Motor Road route, leading to Mushin, and subsequently continue to their intended destinations.
The state government has requested the cooperation of motorists and urged them to exercise patience, emphasizing that the temporary bridge closure is part of a nighttime traffic management strategy aimed at preventing further accidents and safeguarding lives.
Additionally, authorities have taken note of the persistent damage inflicted on truck barriers. They have issued a stern warning, stating that henceforth, any driver responsible for such damage will face the full force of the law.
