In a recent update on AMD’s upcoming Zen 5 CPU lineup, it has been reported that the company is reducing prices across the board compared to the previous generation. The price adjustments reflect a $50 reduction for the Ryzen 9 models, $40 off for the Ryzen 7 9700X, and $20 less for the Ryzen 5 9600X, based on AMD’s list prices. However, these reductions may not fully represent the final retail prices.
Historically, AMD’s last-generation CPUs saw significant price drops shortly after their release. For context, the current prices for AMD’s Zen 4 lineup are as follows:
- Ryzen 5 7600X: $197 (down from $300 at launch)
- Ryzen 7 7700X: $290 (down from $400 at launch)
- Ryzen 9 7900X: $359 (down from $550 at launch)
- Ryzen 9 7950X: $523 (down from $700 at launch)
Despite AMD’s list price cuts for the new Zen 5 CPUs, the actual prices at retail may differ, as seen with previous generations. For instance, AMD’s last-gen CPUs faced price competition from Intel’s Core i9-14900K, which offered similar performance at a lower price point.
The Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X will be available for purchase starting Thursday, with the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X set to launch on August 15. While AMD’s reduced list prices suggest a competitive entry point, the final prices at retailers will ultimately determine how these new processors are received in the market.
