Abuja, Nigeria – January 13, 2025
The EmpowerHer Tech Initiative has called for increased participation of women in technological activities, emphasizing its potential to open IT career opportunities for young girls in secondary schools.
Speaking at an event held at Government Secondary School, Kubwa, Abuja, the firm reaffirmed its mission to inspire and equip high school girls with the skills, confidence, and exposure needed to excel in the digital economy.
Empowering Girls for a Digital Future
In a statement released after the event, EmpowerHer Tech highlighted its efforts to address the gender disparity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, where women currently constitute just 28% of the workforce.
“Through hands-on workshops, mentorship from seasoned IT professionals, and access to cutting-edge technology, we aim to ignite a passion for innovation and problem-solving in young women,” the organization stated.
The initiative focuses on creating a pipeline of future leaders and innovators, striving to make the technology industry more inclusive.
Tackling Disparities, Driving Growth
EmpowerHer Tech described the underrepresentation of women in STEM as a “missed opportunity for innovation and growth,” and stressed the importance of tackling the imbalance.
“When girls are empowered, communities flourish, businesses become more competitive, and societies become more equitable. Investing in girls is not just the right thing to do—it’s the smart thing to do for a sustainable future.”
Inspiration from Industry Leaders
The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Adaora Dagogo, encouraged the students to envision themselves as future leaders in transformative tech careers. She emphasized the role of young women in shaping a more innovative and equitable tech landscape.
The EmpowerHer Tech Initiative continues to advocate for the inclusion of women in technology, ensuring that girls across Nigeria have the tools and opportunities to thrive in the digital economy.
