Accra, Ghana – Artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies could transform financial inclusion across Africa by making financial services more accessible to underserved communities, according to Emmanuel Morka, Chief Information Officer of Access Bank West Africa Region.
Speaking at the Accra Synergy Summit, hosted by TD Africa, Morka emphasized that these emerging technologies can bridge the financial gap and empower individuals, regardless of their socio-economic background.
“AI and blockchain are not just buzzwords; they are game-changers that have the potential to revolutionize financial inclusion in Africa,” Morka said.
Addressing Africa’s Financial Access Gap
The conversation on financial inclusion is crucial as over 350 million adults in Africa remain unbanked, according to the World Bank. AI and blockchain can help:
- Enhance digital identity verification, allowing more people to access banking services.
- Facilitate secure and transparent transactions, reducing fraud.
- Enable decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions, offering financial tools to remote areas.
The Accra Synergy Summit brought together tech industry leaders, policymakers, and global technology firms to explore how digital transformation can drive economic growth.
