Rack Centre, West Africa’s leading carrier-neutral Tier III data centre, has commissioned a new 12-megawatt IT load facility aimed at significantly boosting Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and positioning Lagos as a regional technology and data hub.
The newly unveiled facility, known as LGS2, is located at Rack Centre’s head office on the Lagos Mainland. It is designed to serve cloud service providers, financial institutions, hyperscalers, and large enterprises, offering secure, scalable, and energy-efficient digital solutions.
Rack Centre Chairman Maher Jarmakani described the new data hub as critical to enhancing connectivity and digital transformation across the region.
“Our infrastructure ensures data moves swiftly and securely, connecting enterprises, cloud providers, and ideas to build an advanced society,” he said.
The launch of LGS2 represents an eightfold increase in Rack Centre’s data capacity, underlining its ambitions to consolidate leadership in the sub-Saharan digital ecosystem. The facility also prioritises sustainability, with a portion of its operations powered by natural gas to lower its environmental footprint.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented at the event by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, praised the development as a major milestone in the state’s drive to attract global investment and promote innovation.
“This facility attracts global investors eyeing Lagos as a digital transformation hub,” Egube said, describing Rack Centre as “a trailblazer in Nigeria’s tech ascent.”
Rack Centre Chief Executive Officer Lars Johannisson echoed this sentiment, stating that the expansion marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s digital future.
“From a pioneering venture, we’ve become West Africa’s digital cornerstone,” Johannisson said. “This milestone reinforces our commitment to sustainable digitisation and artificial intelligence adoption.”
A Strategic Infrastructure Milestone
The LGS2 hub is expected to enhance digital resilience, offering tailored infrastructure solutions that meet the growing demands of enterprises in Nigeria and across West Africa. The facility also enhances Rack Centre’s reputation for reliability, with a strong emphasis on security, scalability, and sustainability.
Industry analysts note that such investments are essential as Nigeria continues to experience rising demand for digital services driven by cloud adoption, e-commerce growth, and government digitisation initiatives.
With LGS2 now operational, Rack Centre is reinforcing Nigeria’s growing stature as the continent’s emerging data capital—laying critical groundwork for future digital transformation across Africa.
