Samsung has once again targeted its rival, Apple, in a light-hearted advertisement surrounding the launch of its latest smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge. In a short, playful video posted on Instagram, Samsung compared the weight and design of the Galaxy S25 Edge to that of Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, humorously highlighting the Galaxy’s lighter, more compact build.
The ad features two smartphones suspended from bundles of helium balloons. As the balloons begin to pop, the iPhone 16 Pro—referred to in the video as “Other Phone”—falls to the ground, while the Galaxy S25 Edge continues to float effortlessly. The message is clear: Samsung’s latest device offers a significant weight advantage over its competitor.
While the ad does not directly mention Apple or the iPhone by name, the device shown is unmistakably an iPhone 16 Pro based on its design and specifications. Both smartphones feature titanium frames, but the Galaxy S25 Edge stands out for its thinner profile and lighter weight. Here are the key differences:
- iPhone 16 Pro: 8.3mm thickness, 6.3-inch display, weighs 199 grams.
- Galaxy S25 Edge: 5.8mm thickness, 6.7-inch display, weighs 163 grams.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is 1 gram heavier than the smaller Galaxy S25, showcasing its remarkable size-to-weight ratio. Samsung has positioned the S25 Edge as a phone that “accelerates important innovation across the mobile industry,” emphasizing its role in inspiring future smartphone designs that prioritize thinness and lightness.
Interestingly, rumors suggest that Apple may be developing a thinner iPhone—tentatively dubbed the iPhone 17 Air—which is expected to compete directly with Samsung’s new offering. The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated for a September release, and it remains to be seen whether Apple will respond with its own marketing push or counter-jabs.
As the smartphone industry continues to push the boundaries of design and functionality, Samsung’s playful advertisement highlights the ongoing rivalry between the two tech giants, leaving room for further competitive banter.
