Nigerian conglomerate Alfonso Group has launched a new technology subsidiary, Alfera Technik, as part of plans to break into the consumer electronics market with products designed in Nigeria and built for African and global audiences.
The unveiling, held in Lagos, was described by the company as a milestone in Nigeria–China industrial collaboration, bringing together industry leaders, partners, and distinguished guests.
Demand for consumer technology in Africa’s largest economy continues to surge, driven by a youthful population and rising internet penetration. But the market remains dominated by foreign firms a gap Alfera Technik hopes to close by establishing a manufacturing plant in Ibadan. The facility, located two hours from Lagos, is expected to be completed within 10 months, with initial production scheduled to begin in a year.
In the interim, the company will lean on international partners to deliver its first batch of products, ahead of an official product launch in October.
“What we’re doing today is introducing our new technology company, Alfera Technik. It’s a new brand that will be producing high-tech consumer hardware and software, made in Nigeria,” said Adebayo Alfonso, Chief Executive Officer of Alfonso Group.
“We don’t lack talent. What we face sometimes is a confidence challenge, not a talent challenge. It’s been one of the easiest things for us to bring together the right leadership, operations team, and technical experts both locally and in the diaspora, especially in Belgium and Switzerland.”
Gbenga Ogundipe, Head of Operations at Alfonso Group, added that the company is setting up a warehouse and seven service centres nationwide, including two near major educational hubs. The centres will provide repairs, customer onboarding, and device training. Products will carry a 12-month warranty covering factory defects and accidental damage, with discounted repair services also available.
The company’s first product lineup will include televisions (from 32 inches), laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Alfonso said the long-term ambition is to create a platform for Nigerian-made electronics that can compete with international brands while boosting local jobs and innovation.
“The products you’ll see in October were designed by Alfera Technik, although our factory is still under construction,” Alfonso explained. “Our technical partners are supporting initial production, but the long-term goal remains clear: products made in Nigeria, for Nigeria, and also for the international market.”
Alfonso Group, which has operations across multiple sectors, described the creation of Alfera Technik as a new chapter in its drive to power Africa’s industrial transformation.
Former PUNCH Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Ademola Osinubi, commended the move, calling it “a significant stride towards deepening Nigeria’s capacity in consumer electronics.”
He added that the initiative reflects a forward-looking commitment to local innovation, job creation, and reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported products.
