Global on-demand delivery platform Glovo has described Nigeria as its fastest-growing market in 2025, following a significant expansion drive and increased investment across the country.
The company made the disclosure at its Future of Commerce 2026 summit held in Lagos, where it revealed that it has invested over ₦37 billion (about $27 million) in Nigeria since launching operations in 2021. It also stated that it delivered 38 million items within the past year, nearly doubling the value created for businesses operating on its platform.
According to the company, Nigeria has become a central pillar of its African strategy, as it continues to deepen its footprint in the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
The General Manager of Glovo Nigeria, Reni Onafeko, said the company is focused on empowering small and medium-sized businesses with technology, tools, and access needed to grow in a competitive market environment. He added that collaboration between public and private sectors remains key to driving sustainable economic impact.
Glovo currently operates in several African countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, Uganda, and Côte d’Ivoire. Since its entry into Africa in 2018, the company says it has invested over €250 million across the continent, with Africa now contributing about 25% of its global operations.
Industry data shows Nigeria’s online food delivery market surpassed $1 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $2.7 billion by 2034, driven by rising internet penetration, urbanisation, and a growing youth population.
A regional executive of Glovo Africa noted that Nigeria presents strong growth potential due to its large population and increasing digital adoption, describing the market as one driven by strong momentum.
He explained that the company sees Nigeria as a key growth hub within its global operations, noting that ongoing trends in digital commerce are creating sustained demand for delivery services.
At the operational level, Glovo said product and technology improvements contributed about 35% of merchant sales growth over the past year, highlighting the importance of user experience in driving business performance.
The company also introduced a road safety initiative in March 2026 in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), designed to monitor rider behaviour such as speeding and braking in real time. Glovo said the tool has already recorded 60% adoption among riders, forming part of its broader safety and efficiency strategy.
Looking ahead, the company announced plans to expand its services into additional Nigerian cities beyond its current presence in 11 locations. Although specific areas were not disclosed, the expansion is aimed at reaching underserved markets with rising demand for digital delivery services.
Glovo also indicated a strategic shift towards multi-category commerce, extending beyond food delivery into groceries and retail. This move aligns with broader industry trends, as competitors increasingly position themselves as full-service digital marketplaces.
Company officials noted that the goal is to strengthen Glovo’s position within Nigeria’s evolving on-demand economy while continuing to invest in innovation, logistics, and local partnerships.
With its growing investment and expanding operations, Nigeria is now emerging as one of the most important growth engines for Glovo’s global business strategy.
