Google has announced a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, marking its return to the wearable device space during its I/O 2026 event.
The company revealed a partnership with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to develop the new devices, which are designed in collaboration with Samsung.
According to Google, the upcoming product will function as “audio glasses,” allowing users to interact with the device using voice commands and access services through its AI ecosystem, including Gemini.
A demonstration at the event showed a user placing an order online simply by speaking to the glasses, which then executed the task through connected apps and services.
The company said the smart glasses will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices and are expected to be released later in the year.
Google previously experimented with wearable eyewear through its Google Glass project, which was eventually discontinued after widespread criticism and the emergence of the “glassholes” label used to describe early adopters.
However, the smart glasses market has since evolved, with renewed interest driven by competitors such as Meta and several startups investing heavily in AI-integrated wearable technology.
