Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked widespread outrage after posting an AI-generated video on his social media platform, Truth Social, depicting a vision for Gaza as a luxury beach resort. The controversial clip, which has drawn sharp criticism from Palestinian officials and international observers, envisions the war-torn enclave transformed into a Trump-branded tourist destination.
The video, set to upbeat music, showcases a golden statue of Trump, lavish hotels, and a beachfront development. It also features surreal imagery, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump lounging in swimwear, billionaire Elon Musk eating hummus under a rain of U.S. dollars, and bearded and bikini-clad dancers celebrating the transformation.
A voiceover in the video proclaims: “No more tunnels, no more fear—Trump Gaza is finally here!” The footage opens with Palestinian children walking through rubble before transitioning to a skyline of skyscrapers and luxury accommodations.
Backlash Over “Expulsion” Proposal
The AI-generated video appears to align with Trump’s earlier suggestion of relocating Gaza’s 2.1 million residents and converting the territory into a “Riviera-style” resort owned by the United States. His proposal has been widely condemned, with the Palestinian Authority calling it a “serious violation of international law.”
“We have tried displacement before, and it will not happen again,” said Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen, referencing the forced displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
Following backlash from Egyptian and Jordanian leaders, Trump attempted to downplay the idea in a Fox News interview, stating, “The way to do it is my plan. I think that’s the plan that really works. But I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it.”
Political and Ethical Concerns
The video has fueled debates over the use of AI-generated propaganda in politics, with critics arguing it trivializes the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Others view it as an attempt to shift the narrative away from the ongoing violence and suffering in the region.
CNN has reached out to the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and the White House for official comments regarding the video and Trump’s broader proposal.
As tensions in the Middle East remain high, the video has been widely criticized as insensitive and provocative, raising concerns over the role of AI-generated media in shaping political discourse.
