IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Towers, has launched incubation and acceleration programs at the newly established Ilorin Innovation Hub in partnership with the Kwara State Government. The initiative aims to nurture tech talent, support startups, and stimulate economic growth.
The innovation hub, spanning 13,000 square meters with a seating capacity of over 1,000 users, is one of the largest tech centers in West Africa. Designed to drive technological innovation and entrepreneurship, the facility will be officially commissioned later this year.
IHS Nigeria, which co-developed and oversees the hub’s operations, is collaborating with Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) and Future Africa to implement a series of programs. These include advanced technical leadership training, corporate innovation initiatives, and mentorship programs, providing entrepreneurs and businesses with critical digital skills, funding access, and expert guidance.
Speaking at the launch, IHS Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamad Darwish, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and economic empowerment.
“This marks another critical milestone in IHS’ efforts to improve the lives of people in our operating communities by supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and overall wealth creation in Nigeria,” Darwish said.
The initiative is expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, agricultural technology, and energy innovation. It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to boost Nigeria’s digital economy.
Additionally, the Ilorin Innovation Hub complements IHS Nigeria’s collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy on the Three Million Technical Talent initiative, aimed at equipping Nigerians with essential digital skills.
Darwish expressed optimism that the hub would support the rise of new tech unicorns in Nigeria, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a global leader in innovation.
Positioned as a key driver of Kwara State’s digital transformation, the Ilorin Innovation Hub is set to become a hub of creativity and technological advancement, fostering sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
