SAN MATEO, CA – Roblox is rolling out enhanced parental controls, allowing caregivers greater oversight of who their children interact with and what content they can access, according to a company announcement.
The update, detailed in a blog post from Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman, expands on previous safety features introduced last year. Those earlier changes included a special type of parent-managed account designed to give guardians remote control over certain aspects of their child’s Roblox experience. The move came after reports surfaced highlighting instances where Roblox had failed to adequately protect young users.
More Control Over Friends and Content
With the latest changes, parents who have linked their accounts to their child’s can now:
- Block and report specific users on their child’s friend list.
- Restrict access to specific games and experiences, rather than just filtering content by maturity level.
Children under 13 will not be able to unblock users or experiences that have been restricted by their parents—though they can submit a request for review.
Additionally, parents will now have insight into the 20 experiences their child has spent the most time in over the past week, a new feature designed to improve transparency around in-game activity.
Ongoing Efforts to Improve Safety
The new parental controls come as part of Roblox’s broader efforts to address concerns about child safety and content moderation. While the platform remains immensely popular among young users, it has faced criticism over inappropriate content and predatory behavior slipping through moderation gaps.
By expanding blocking, reporting, and activity monitoring tools, Roblox aims to give parents more control over their child’s digital experience while maintaining the platform’s open-world creativity.
The updated parental controls are rolling out now and will be accessible to all users in the Parental Controls section of the platform’s settings.
