Samsung appears poised to shake up its flagship smartphone lineup with the introduction of the Galaxy S26 Pro, a model that could replace the standard Galaxy S26 entirely. Recent leaks from the GSMA device registry and early One UI 8 firmware builds suggest the tech giant is planning a major rebranding and streamlining of its S-series lineup, possibly eliminating the traditional base model in favor of a more premium-tier offering.
According to internal documentation, Samsung is expected to launch three variants in its upcoming S26 series: the Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra. Notably absent is any mention of a base Galaxy S26, reinforcing speculation that Samsung intends to start its 2026 flagship lineup with the Pro model.
The S26 Pro listed under the codename SM-S942U1 will reportedly feature a 4,300 mAh battery, an improvement over the 4,000 mAh unit found in the Galaxy S25. The S26 Edge is expected to take the place of the Plus variant and could be equipped with a 4,200 mAh battery, also an upgrade from the previous model’s 3,900 mAh capacity.
Meanwhile, the S26 Ultra is rumored to maintain its position at the top of the lineup, offering premium features including a 200MP ISOCELL HP2+ camera sensor, advanced AI capabilities, and 60W fast charging. The Ultra model may also support multiple AI assistants, including Google Gemini and ChatGPT, as part of Samsung’s growing emphasis on AI integration.
The new naming strategy reflects a broader industry trend to emphasize premium branding. Much like Apple’s differentiation between standard and Pro models, Samsung appears to be positioning the S26 Pro as the new entry point into its high-end smartphone range.
Despite the anticipated changes, Samsung is expected to unveil the full Galaxy S26 series at its Galaxy Unpacked event, typically held in January or February each year. The company has yet to officially confirm the new lineup.
If accurate, the restructuring would mark a significant shift in Samsung’s flagship strategy one that aligns more closely with market demand for premium smartphones and streamlined model choices.
