Top business leaders, government officials, and technology experts will converge in Abuja, Nigeria, from August 12 to 14, 2025, for the African Digital Economy and Inclusivity Conference (AFDEIC), a high-level summit aimed at shaping the future of the continent’s digital transformation.
Themed “AI and Africa’s Digital Economy: Leaving No One Behind,” the conference will spotlight how artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies can drive inclusivity, boost economic growth, and bridge infrastructure gaps on the road to realising Africa’s projected $180 billion digital economy by 2025.
Organisers say the conference will delve into urgent issues such as expanding digital infrastructure, increasing rural connectivity, promoting financial inclusion, advancing cybersecurity, and accelerating AI adoption across key sectors.
“Despite rapid fintech, e-commerce, and AI-driven advancements, Africa still faces significant digital infrastructure gaps,” said Adedayo Oketola, Team Lead of the AFDEIC Organising Committee. “Many rural Africans lack internet access, with millions still unable to benefit from digital financial services and e-learning platforms.”
Bridging the Digital Divide
With 73 per cent of Africa’s rural population still offline, the summit will tackle the digital divide head-on. Discussions will explore scalable solutions to increase broadband access, particularly in underserved areas, and identify strategies for leveraging AI to improve service delivery in healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance.
Nigeria’s digital economy will feature prominently, as the federal government continues to roll out broadband expansion policies and e-commerce initiatives to position the country as a regional tech hub.
“AFDEIC 2025 will be a defining moment for Africa’s digital economy,” Oketola added. “It offers stakeholders an opportunity to engage with policymakers, explore AI’s role in economic inclusion, and forge strategic partnerships that could drive investments in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and fintech.”
AI, Cybersecurity, and the Road Ahead
The inclusion of AI in Africa’s digital strategy has transformative potential but also presents challenges, such as limited computing power, data privacy concerns, and the risk of deepening inequality.
“AFDEIC 2025 will explore how AI can be harnessed responsibly and equitably to accelerate development across the continent,” Oketola said.
Cybersecurity will also be a critical focus, with the conference addressing rising threats like data breaches and financial fraud that accompany rapid digitalisation. Organisers say the event will spotlight best practices and innovative frameworks for securing Africa’s digital future.
A Platform for Innovation and Investment
According to Adetoun Tade, AFDEIC’s marketing lead, the conference will welcome stakeholders across the spectrum—governments, development agencies, tech companies, investors, and innovators—as partners, exhibitors, and sponsors.
“The African digital landscape is evolving rapidly, with AI, mobile payments, and blockchain technology reshaping industries from banking to healthcare,” Tade said. “AFDEIC is where to stay ahead of digital trends that will define Africa’s economic future.”
As anticipation builds, AFDEIC 2025 is shaping up to be a critical platform for collaboration, innovation, and action in ensuring that no one is left behind in Africa’s digital transformation journey.
